GoalTube - Get Certified to watch YouTube!

I participated in Smart India Hackathon, 2022 Software Edition. My team worked under the 'Student Innovation' domain and came up with the idea of GoalTube. My work focused around NLP based questionaire generation based on the content derived from youtube API.

So, what is Goaltube all about?

Whenever we come across a new technology/concept, we always prefer to search about it over Youtube right! Youtube is a source to so many amazing educational contents. Content Creators use so many interactive features to make us understand the concept or any information. We have this priviledge, to get all this resources for free and in the language we want and also at any time. Eventually, we even prefer Youtube over platforms like Coursera, EdX, etc. But, then there's a problem!

The problem is, that we do not get any credibility to watch and study these educational youtube content. Like, by watching the content on Coursera/EdX,etc we do get a certificate which can be used to show to the recruiters and does make a significant impact. But then, does getting a certificate provide a credibility of a student?

Certainly Not! Like, if your learning Deep learning concepts from Alexander Amini's youtube channel and build amazing and practical projects based on the knowledge you learned through youtube, then those projects certainly show that your credible enough for the ML/DL based job. But, what if your learning sales and marketing technicalities from youtube which is quite a theoretical content, and building a project similar to CS projects is not possible. so, in that case, a certificate would surely matter to demonstrate your interest.

GoalTube trys to bridge this gap by being a platform, where the user can give a quiz or a test generated based on the Youtube educational playlist and then would get a certificate based on the user's performance. We can also use the quiz to determine whether or not the user is watching the video. Furthermore, testing your knowledge is a way to gain confidence in that subject, and thus our application will motivate users to complete the courses.

This platform is especially useful for people belonging from lower social income backgrounds, who cannot afford the certificate fees of coursera like platforms and facing language barriers, can get certified based on their knowledge gained from watching Ed content on Youtube and can skill themselves up, all for free, thus increasing their employability.
